Tonight was supposed to be Sleeping Beauty, but we found out a couple of weeks ago when we purchased our tickets that the venue had changed to Giselle. It was on their website and they told us when we purchased our tickets.
Apparently either half of the audience doesn't have Internet or they just didn't pay attention when they purchased their tickets, because as people started trickling in there was a horde of customers complaining as they realized it wasn't going to be Sleeping Beauty. Then there was a rush to get their money back for tickets they didn't want to use, and as a result, the opera house was only half-full this evening.
A pity, really. The performers put on one hell of a show, as they always do. This is one hobby that I'm glad I let my wife convince me to get into. I always loved theatre back in the States, and participated in and also watched from the crowd since I was a child, age 5, when I starred as Tiny Tim in The Christmas Carol for a college production. Now, I haven't actually done any theatre in about 10 years, but I've always actively gone to shows. But ballet and opera was something I never even considered, until my first show back around Christmas when we saw The Nutcracker. Since then, we've seen several others, with my favorite being Swan's Lake, so far.
Rigoletto is coming up in April or May, I forget, but I'm really looking forward to it. It is an opera, not a ballet, but even so, I can't wait. Don Quixote is next month, I believe, so that's the next ticket on our agenda.
