So, after a few weeks of waiting, and dealing with a new editor, my short story "Medallions of Lashiva", which was due out in May, 2009, will make it into Issue 13 of Flashing Swords Press. It was initially scheduled for Issue 12, but the magazine changed hands, and things got lost along the way.
The editor asked me if I would be willing to write a sequel story (I spoke of this in a recent blog post), and I said yes, but I'd been waiting to hear back from her. Today was that day, and I've been given the green-light to write a sequel story for Issue 14. So that news is good.
On the down side, today I also received notice that my submission to the Writers of the Future contest didn't make the cut. No big deal, I'm still waiting to hear if I got an honorable mention or not, but at this point at the very least it frees up another short story for me to start back in circulation, and I can look at freeing up another story to send in for the next round of the competition by the end of June.
I also have a short story on hold with an Australian publication, and 3 others in submission. Ah, the joys of waiting 2-3 months until you know what's become of your work!
So, good news and "meh" news, they equal out. At the very least, I'm selling stories outside of my freelance work, which is a step in the right direction for me, and more writing credits to my name when the time comes to shop my manuscript. Being asked to write a sequel story was a big thing for me (a first), so I'm happy to oblige. So today I'm patting myself on the back for a story well written, enough so that the editor wants to have another about the same character. Yay me!
